Monsieur Contraste was screened at the Carrack Modern Art in Downtown Durham, N.C., during an incredibly successful run of two weeks, with six out of nine screenings sold out. This is the first time that a local film maker attempted to show his film in Durham, N.C. for more than 2 days. In all, 447 tickets were sold.
The event's title was Monsieur Contraste and The Church of Photography and it consisted of a screening of Monsieur Contraste in the same space featuring a retrospective of Jean-Christian Rostagni's (a.k.a. Monsieur Contraste) photographs. The crowd keep coming and coming back, which translated in record sales of photographs.

In Monsieur Contraste, the film, Monsieur Contraste goes back on the Washington Mall to the very spot where 2 years earlier he shot his historic photograph Of, By, For. That photograph of the 2009 Presidential inauguration carries exceptional symbolism tying President Obama to Abraham Lincoln in a spiritual atmosphere.
Jean-Christian Rostagni raised money so that a print of this photograph could be offered to the President, and in October, the Ambassador of France presented it to the White House.
Quadra, a distributing film company with global reach based in Paris, France, fell in love with Monsieur Contraste, and is distributing the film world wide.
The premier at Cucalorus was a resounding success, the audience responded to the film beyond our expectations.

Monsieur Contraste is having its World Premiere at the Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington North Carolina, November 8-11, 2012.
This is a delighful little town on the east coast of the United States where the weather is very pleasant at this time of the year. The town is deceitfully little known, as it is in fact the third largest production location for films and television in the U.S.
We feel quite honored.
Synched with the completion of Monsieur Contraste, Photo techniques magazine publishes in its May/June issue, a portfolio artcile of Jean-Chistian Rostagni's photographs of Occupy Wall Street shot during the filming of Monsieur Contraste and one of the film's high notes of photojournalism's experience.
